Dynamic Lighting

Movement of light in the theatre is most commonly achieved by effecting crossfades between lighting statesvideo  .

The movement of light thus achieved is induced movement, since the light beams do not move physically, nor do any of the properties of the light beams, such as light distribution or beam shape, change.

Real light movement, achieved by physically moving the luminaire in the manner of a follow-spot, has been employed in the theatre as far back as the early days of limelights.
But it is only over the last two decades that the potential of real movement of light beams, enhanced by fluid changes of color, gobo and distribution has been tapped, not only in rock and roll concerts, but also, increasingly, in other theatrical genres video . The use of moving light has also become a characteristic feature of televised pop music programs.

Intelligent luminaires, rapidly developing hand in hand with advanced technologies of computerized control, have opened up a vast new scope of artistic potential for theatre lighting.
