Multi mirror lamps (Mini Reflector Lamp) are low-voltage lamps with integral reflectors.
|
Multi mirror lamps have replaced the old R-40
reflector
lamps, used in the theatre for so many years. Multi mirror lamps, like PAR lamps, are self contained units consisting of a miniature tungsten-halogen lamp, a glass reflector, and quite often, a protective glass lens. |
The
light source
is a single ended low
voltage
(12-120v) tungsten-halogen
lamp
of low
wattage
(20-50W). |

| It is mounted in the center of a parabolic multi-faceted dichroic reflector, in line with its optical axis. |
This dichroic
reflector
reflects the light that falls onto the surface, yet is transparent to
infrared
radiation (heat), so that the heat radiates from the back of the lamp, keeping the surface of the
lamp
relatively cool. The
lens
is not optical, and is intended to protect the
lamp
and the
reflector
from dust and dirt and to filter out the UV-C rays that the
lamp
produces.
|
MR lamps are available in two basic sizes: MR 16 and MR 11, the number denoting the diameter in 1"/8 units. Thus the MR 16 has a diameter of about 50mm, and the MR 11 a diameter of about 35mm.
